Our signature Anatomie 6mm Jute rope is ideal for shibari. This single-ply jute rope is light, fast, and has a consistent twist.

Treated to a smooth ready-to-use finish with a blend of jojoba and camellia oils, this rope has been rigorously tested and is proven to be robust and long-lasting. It's suitable for vegans, available in 7.5 meter lengths, and comes in a natural colour. Our team has pre-treated each rope to ensure it's ready for use, and the ends are finished with secured overhand knots. If taken care of properly, it'll serve you for a very long time.

Surface fuzz is normal

New jute develops a layer of fine fuzz. Some people singe this off; you can also brush it off with a coir brush, or just allow it to shed naturally with use. It's part of the breaking-in phase every jute rope goes through and not a defect.

Keep it dry

Jute is a natural fibre and doesn't love being damp. If you can, we recommend airing your ropes out after use by hanging them. If your ropes do get wet you'll need to hang them under tension.

Re-oil when it dries out

Over time and use, jute loses some of the oils and will start to feel stiff and brittle. Re-treat the ropes with a jute-suitable oil (camellia/tsubaki oil is standard, jojoba oil is also very popular). How often you'll need to treat your ropes depends on how often you use it, whether it's used on skin or clothing and also the climate.

How many ropes do I need?

Two ropes is the practical minimum. That covers single and double column ties, simple leg and chest ties, and most beginner class content.

We recommend starting with four ropes of 7.5m. With two you spend a lot of time untying one thing to tie the next, which is a slow way to learn - four lets a tie stay tied while you practise the next one.

Once you are working on the floor you will probably want around eight, which is enough to combine upper and lower body harnesses freely. A full suspension set is typically twelve lengths or more.

Which length do I actually need?

Most people will want to purchase the 7.5 m length for shibari. We make longer lengths available to for those who prefer to cut ropes to a specific length, or sometimes because Naka-style practitioners like a single long rope in their kit.

Quality ropes, slight problem with one was quickly resolved

Everything arrived very quickly and in good packaging. The treated 15m rope felt great but did have some samll burn marks, I assume from the treating possess. The untreated 7.5m rope did have a jumped strand but it was easily resolved by a custom how to video sent to me in a few days after I reached out. Overall very pleased

Didn't meet expectations

I've bought rope from a couple other places before and wanted to give this one a try due to the good reviews. It's much thicker than all my other 6mm rope. It's also rougher and feels less processed than other processed rope I've bought and even when conditioning it myself, it's still not so soft and sheds a lot more than other rope I've had. I didn't realize it's 7.5 metres and not the standard 8 when I ordered it and that part is my own fault, but overall wouldn't order from here again.

Thanks for your feedback. Our ropes are a true 6mm as measured on the reel, but they naturally expand and contract depending on humidity and how the fibres absorb oil or moisture - so sometimes they can seem thicker or firmer compared to other ropes. This is particularly true after transport. After some use the ropes' diameter should quickly break in, returning to their correct diameter and any shedding will settle too.

I think it was a bit dry? Two layers of oil made them suit my preference perfectly. Tested a scrap piece to around 130kg before it broke which I heard is decent for jute. Would buy again

Excellent quality of rope! Perfect! They come with very nice black cotton bags, love them.
No additional custom charges to Austria as indicated on the website.
But, the EMT shears were left behind.
